200, avenue Hotel-de-Ville |
New Brunswick Tourism Region : Acadian Coast
Description From Owner:
- The name derives from the Micmac Sepaguncheech for 'duck passage,' a migration shortcut between the islands. It is shown on a 1755 map as Chipagan. Shippagan also applies to Shippagan Bay and Shippagan Gully.
- New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre at 100 Aquarium St. lets visitors see, among other exhibits, blue lobsters and harbour seals at the largest public aquarium in Atlantic Canada.
- Also on site is Old Portage Island Lighthouse, a wooden salt-shaker tower established in 1906.
