Description From Owner:
- Wilson's Beach is named for Robert Wilson who settled here in 1766 and successfully rejected William Owen's claim to possess all of the island. The post office opened under that name in 1859.
- Samuel de Champlain named the island Port aux Coquilles (Shell Harbour) in 1613.
- In 1770, Capt. William Owen (1737-1778) of the Royal Navy attempted to rename it Conway for that place in Wales. Locals preferred the descriptive name Head Harbour for the little island which lies at the head of Campobello I.
